MEHAIR’s maiden seaplane service takes off from Mumbai

Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt. Ltd. (MEHAIR) and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) late last month flagged off the first commercial flight from Mumbai to Pawana Dam, Lonavla. The amphibian planes will eventually connect Mumbai with multiple state tourist destinations adjacent to four suitable water bodies, even though there are no runways at these destinations, as per a release.

SpiceJet to resume flights to Bangkok from Sept 25, 2014

SpiceJet Ltd. today announced the resumption of flights to Bangkok (Suvarnabhoomi Airport) with a new daily direct flight from Kolkata starting from September 25, 2014. This will be the airline’s first direct international flight from Kolkata, as per a release. SpiceJet will deploy the Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft on this route. The airline used to operate flights to Bangkok from Bengaluru and Pune.

The flight from Kolkata, SG83, will depart at 0005 hrs and land in Bangkok at 0410 hrs. The return flight from Bangkok, SG84, will depart at 0510 hrs and arrive at Kolkata at 0625 hrs (all as per local time). The timings are subject to regulatory approvals.

Air India set to introduce daily link from Birmingham with new Dreamliner jet

Increased service will provide 1,500 extra seats a week from city to Delhi and Amritsar. Birmingham is set to have a daily air link with India providing extra 1,500 seats a week from November.
Air India Commercial Director Mr. Pankaj Srivastava announced the plans at a celebratory dinner to celebrate the airline’s first anniversary of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner service linking Birmingham with Delhi and Amritsar according to a news item in Birmingham Mail.
He said: “Since starting our four times weekly Dreamliner programme from Birmingham Airport last year, we have handled more than 80,000 passengers on board 210 flights.
“Air India is committed to develop and grow in this market and once we have taken the delivery of our 18th Dreamliner aircraft in November, we hope to launch the daily operation from Birmingham Airport.
“This will provide an extra 1,500 seats a week and give passengers greater choice, flexibility and opportunity to travel from the convenience of Birmingham Airport to Amritsar and Delhi, and onwards on Air India’s extensive global network.”
Air India’s current schedule operates from Birmingham each Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s chief executive, added: “We are extremely thankful to Air India for recognising the demand from travellers needing the flexibility of daily services from Birmingham".
